I was reading this article in http://cbs2.com/national/richmond.gang.rape.2.1275887.html. This article talks about how a 15-year old girl was raped, beaten, and robbed. She was leaving Richman High School's homecoming dance. She was taken to a "dimly lit area near benches Saturday night." She was rapped and beaten for about 2 hours. The article states that about 10 people were attacking the girl and as many as two dozen people were watching the whole thing and didn't call the police. In the article Trent Copeland, a legal analyst says "Although this is a very difficult crime to hear about, the fact is California law does not impose an affirmative obligation on anyone to do anything when you are watching a crime." The 15-year old girl was airlifted to a local hospital.
This article was very horrifing to me. I have never been around situations like that or been any where near them. To find out that someone can actually watched a person get raped and beaten and not do anything is surprising to me. I don't understand how anyone can go by watching that without wanting to help the person? This school needs to get their students more under control. I know that if I was a parent I would be terrified to have my children attend that school. I am dissapointed in how police aren't really doing their job. Isn't the reason for police or security guard to "serve and protect?" They didn't do much of a good job that night on protecting the 15-year old girl. How safe can the students feel if this has happened multiple times in their school and yet not drastic measures have been taken. This article stated that there was 19 student murders last year and a car set on fire. How much in control is this school of their students? To me it seems like it the students are the ones that run the school and not teachers or anybody that works there. I believe that this school should become for organized and have severe consequences to the students actions. Even to those who didn't participate in the crime but witnessed it.

I can't believe how people could just watch this happen and not do anything. The police need to do their jobs and patrol the area so this kind of thing doesn't happen.
ReplyDeleteWOW how funny I wrote the same thing, and I m from RIchmond, but it is really sad how people would stoop so low to lure a woman and want to take advantage of her. It goes to show how cruel people are.
ReplyDeleteI Have Been Hearing All About This Story For A Little While Now. And I Still Can't Believe This Happened, As Well As Them Arresting Another Person For It Today :/
ReplyDeleteSick And Disgusting World!
